July 23, 1862, brigade composed of the Third, Fifth, Sixth, Twelfth, Twenty-sixth and Sixty-first Alabama Regiments Infantry, D. H. Hill's Division, Jackson's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia. June 22, 1863, division composed of the brigades of Doles, Daniel and Ramseur, Army of Northern Virginia. January 31 to September 19, 1864, commanding a division, Second Corps, Army of Northern Virginia.
