DONELSON, DANIEL S., Tennessee.
Brigadier general, Provisional Army of Tennessee, March 9, 1861, as acting adjutant general.
Brigadier general, P. A. C. S., July 9, 1861.
Major general, P. A. C. S., January 17, 1863.
Died April 17, 1863, at Knoxville, Tenn.

Commands.
December 23, 1861, ordered with command to report for duty in Fourth Military District of South Carolina, Department of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
Brigade composed of the Eighth, Sixteenth, Twenty-eighth, Thirty- eighth, Fifty-first and Fifty-second Tennessee Regiments Infantry, and Carnes' Tennessee Battery of Artillery, known as the First Brigade, Second Division, First Corps, Army of the Mississippi.
Commanding First Division of the right wing of the Army of the Mississippi, composed of the brigades of Brigadier Generals Maney and Stewart, and Donelson's Brigade, commanded by Colonel John H. Savage.
Commanding the Department of East Tennessee, January 17, 1863.

Donelson, Daniel S., born in Tennessee, appointed from Tennessee cadet United States Military Academy, July 1, 1821 ; graduated fifth in a class of thirty-seven.
Second lieutenant, Third Artillery, July 1, 1825.
Resigned January 22, 1826.
